A Solo Walking Holiday in Svaneti, with No Single Supplement
Come on your own and join a small group of up to eight. Your own room is included, and your guide is from these valleys, not flown in for the season
International flights not included, we help you choose the route
Travel alone, without the usual solo penalties
No single supplement on this departure
Most operators charge solo travellers extra for a room of their own. We don't. For this departure we have seven rooms available at our guesthouse in Mestia, so you get your own room at no extra charge. If everyone on that departure wants a private room, we simply keep the group to seven. You travel alone, but you are never on your own: meals are shared and hosted, and the group is a maximum of eight.
A small group with the logistics handled
Transfers, guesthouses, meals and the route are organised before you land. You travel with a maximum of 8 people, hosted by our founder and guided locally in Svaneti.
Culture and comfort after the trail
Medieval Svan villages, Georgian meals and shared tables, and a warm room at the end of every day. This is the Caucasus with its boots off in the evening.
A glimpse of Svaneti in late September

The shape of the week
Land, settle into the hotel, first Georgian dinner. Two nights bookend the trip in the city.
A spectacular half-day drive into the high Caucasus, climbing from vineyards to snow peaks, to our guesthouse home in Mestia.
Etseri and Mazeri villages, the trails beneath Mount Ushba, and Ushguli, one of the highest continuously inhabited villages in Europe.
Towers, museums, the bathhouse, and time to simply be in the mountains before the valley lets you go.
Return to Kutaisi with a camera full of autumn and a final night before your flight home.

What happens after you reserve
To be honest, this trip may not suit you if
- you are not comfortable walking for several hours on uneven mountain paths
- you want a five-star resort and a pool lounger, our comfort is warm, clean and family-run, not luxury
- a scenic half-day mountain drive on winding roads sounds like a chore rather than part of the adventure
- you prefer to plan every hour yourself, this week follows a shared rhythm with the group

Good questions, honest answers
How difficult is the walking
If you enjoy a full day of country walking, you will be fine. There are 4 guided walking days on mountain paths and uneven ground; the biggest days are approx 14 to 19 km with up to 700 m of ascent, at a sociable pace. A comfortable minivan covers the long road transfers, and a 4x4 handles the rough mountain tracks. This is never a race.
Can I choose a gentler option on some days
Yes. On the bigger days there are shorter and gentler alternatives, and the 4x4 can carry you over part of a route. Tell the guide how your legs feel each morning and the day is shaped around the group.
I am travelling on my own, what are the room arrangements
Solo travellers are very welcome, and there is no single supplement on the 23-30 September 2026 departure. Our Mestia guesthouse has seven rooms, so you have your own room at no extra charge. If everyone on that departure wants a private room, we simply keep the group to seven.
What happens if the group does not fill
Nothing changes for you. This departure is confirmed and runs regardless of group size.
How do I get to Kutaisi or Tbilisi
You book your own flights and we help you choose the most practical route for your dates before you commit. UK passport holders do not need a visa for Georgia for stays of up to one year.
What exactly does the £990 cover
All 7 nights, local guiding through the Svaneti days, every transfer inside Georgia including the 4x4 days, full board on the mountain days, and the Svan bathhouse. International flights, insurance and personal extras are not included.
What is the weather usually like in late September
Often the best of the year: mild golden days in the valleys, crisp evenings, autumn colour coming through. It is still the high Caucasus, so we pack for mountain weather and tell you exactly what to bring.
Who is this trip designed for
Independent-minded travellers who prefer real places to resorts, walk happily for a few hours, and value a good table in the evening. Most guests come solo or as a couple, and by the second dinner it feels like a table of friends.
Can I ride a horse there
Riding is available as an optional extra with an instructor, not as part of the walking programme. If you fancy trying, tell us and we will arrange it in Mestia.
Ask about this trip
Tell us what you would like to know. A few lines are enough, and Jurijs or Mari will reply by email, usually within a day.
