The trip was well organised and had a good mix of hiking, culture, and free time. The drive from Kutaisi to Mestia was quite long, but the road passed through beautiful valleys and mountain scenery, so it became part of the experience rather than just a transfer.

The hike to Shdugra Waterfalls was my favourite day. The route changed constantly, moving from forest trails and riverside paths to open mountain terrain. We could hear the waterfall long before we reached it, and the cold air coming from the glacier made the whole place feel very wild. It was a demanding walk, but the pace was comfortable and there were regular breaks.

Still smiling about those eight days in Svaneti.

We drove up from Kutaisi into stone towers, green meadows and Mount Ushba just sitting there on the skyline. Stayed in proper family guesthouses — creaky floors, long tables, the smell of kubdari from the wood oven. Walked at an easy pace: soft meadow days, the longer hike toward the glacier, then that quiet afternoon under Shkhara in Ushguli.

What really made it special was Jurijs. He doesn’t perform or recite a script. He just knows the place — the people, the old stories, the light. Little things he dropped into conversation that made everything click. The mountains were stunning, but Jurijs made them feel like home.
